I lost 30kgs in 15 weeks, let me show you how! FREE MENU PLAN!

A few years ago I was tipping the scales at 120kgs, on my 5’9″ frame it was a horrid picture, I couldn’t really see it for myself but photos don’t lie (see for yourself).

I had left my husband who I was with for almost 10 years and had just been in another crazy relationship with someone who disrespected me also and I finally got sick of not being treated how I deserved to be, so I decided it was time to focus on me and this is when it all started. Now this doesn’t mean you have to go through a rough break up to do something about your weight, it just means you have to love yourself enough to realize YOU ARE WORTH IT!

The first step was to change my eating habits, as they say eating is 80% whilst exercise is 20% and it’s very true.

I’m not sure I knew what I was really doing but I started to “eat clean” this involves cutting out certain foods and adding in more of other ones.

So I cut out the following

1: Carbs in the form of Bread, White Rice and Pasta, Potatoes, Chips or crackers.

2: Any foods with sugar, including those with added sugar, it’s amazing how much sugar is in a lot of foods you may not even realize, just look at the nutritional label and you will see. No lollies, flavored milk, soda, chocolate etc

3: Alcohol, most alcohol contains sugar and/or carbs and is a complete NO NO on a clean eating plan.

4: Caffeine, Avoid it (if you have to) limit it to one cup a day at most.

So I’m sure you want to know what you CAN have, who wants to be told what they CAN’T have all the time. I don’t like to use the word DIET, as it can cause Anxiety and Depression for those that are always on some form of one, I like to think of this as a lifestyle change for the better.

I started eating lots of fresh fruit and veggies, I added in legumes into most evening meals to make me feel fuller. I drank lots of water and came up with new inventive ways of making my most loved meals.

When you are “eating clean” it means having foods that are WHOLE, in other words they don’t come in a package most of the time, I did however use tinned legumes as I couldn’t be bothered soaking the dried ones, the tinned type can have added sugar or salt so as long as you drain them and rinse them well all will be ok. I also use Frozen Vegetables as I always waste so much fresh produce and Frozen Vegetables are just as good if not better.

Also I did use some sauces, which is not usually on the list of good foods, but if you have them sparingly it’s ok.

I was losing 2kg a week on average, it was more at the start and slowed down towards the end. Everybody is different so results may differ however you WILL lose a good amount of weight Eating Clean, and remember this is a new lifestyle not a DIET so you can live on this Plan.

Exercise!

Yes you will need to move your body, but don’t worry, I’m not expecting you to go out and get a gym membership and go 7 days a week, I certainly didn’t do that, I have a Chronic Back Injury so that was never going to happen, however I did get moving with the Help of some good pain medication (if I didn’t I couldn’t do anything).

I started Zumba/Bokwa, and I loved it so much I actually became a Certified BOKWA instructor. I love to Dance and what better way to exercise than do what you love.

I did this 3-4 times per week for 1 hour sessions, it was low cost and I loved every minute. This is the only exercise I did to lose my weight, however even though I did lose 30kgs, I only went down 2 dress sizes when I could have lost a lot more, (notice my upper arms are still large) this was because all I was doing was Cardio. You need to tone your body using weights also, this is where you will lose a lot of INCHES not just weight. You don’t need heavy weights, only about 2kg dumbells and just do lots of repetitions of these. Another way I have used in the past is again to do with Dancing, I found a song I liked that ran for approx 5 minutes and for that 5 minutes alone in my room I ran on the spot (high knees) and did star jumps with my arms, I lost a lot of inches off my (bingo lady) arms and my (chubby) thighs.

Along with Eating Clean and Exercise you need to keep yourself really hydrated which I’m sure you all know but a lot of us don’t do it. Have at least 2 litres of water daily, and on days where you are exercising have another 1 litre (at least) before/after and during.
